Overview

About Yala

Yala has the highest density of leopards anywhere in the world, and that's the draw — though the park's dry-zone landscape of scrub, lagoons and open grassland also holds elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles and some of the best birdlife on the island. Only two of the park's five blocks are open to visitors, both accessed by open-jeep safari with a licensed guide; you can't get out and walk. Two safaris rather than one meaningfully improves your odds of a leopard sighting.
