Trincomalee holds one of the world's great natural deep-water harbours, and a coastline that's quieter and less developed than the south. Its season runs opposite the south coast's — dry and calm from May to September, exactly when Mirissa is in its off-season — which makes it a smart pairing for a two-coast itinerary. Snorkelling at Pigeon Island and whale watching are the twin draws, alongside long, uncrowded beaches at Uppuveli and Nilaveli.
