About Galle
Galle Fort is a genuinely walkable slice of history — a 16th-century Portuguese-then-Dutch fortress town on a small peninsula, its ramparts still intact after more than 400 years. Inside the walls: narrow streets, colonial-era churches, boutique shops in converted merchant houses, and a lighthouse that's been guiding ships since 1848. It's compact enough to see the highlights in a day, but worth an overnight to catch the ramparts at sunset without a tour bus schedule to keep to.

Getting There
How to Reach Galle
The Southern Expressway makes it around 90 minutes to 2 hours by car; the coastal train from Colombo Fort takes closer to 3 hours but is one of the more scenic routes on the island.
